Sandip as Ravana?

Would anyone care to illuminate the references to the Ramayana in Ghare-Baire? In particular, the character Sandip suggests that he is like Ravan and that Nikhil, like Ram. I can see the similarities between Nikhil and Ram - both following their dharma, the wisdom of their actions, their regal heritage, etc. I am not so clear as to how similar or different Sandip is to Ravan -- sure he stole Amulya as Ravan stole Sita, but beyond that what similarities are there, if any?
